Manitoba Government Honoured with Construction Awards, Announces 2023-24 Winter Advertising Schedule

The Manitoba government has announced it will be releasing the 2023-24 winter advertising schedule today. The announcement took place at the Manitoba Heavy Construction Association (MHCA) awards breakfast and annual general meeting with Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Lisa Naylor, where the province was honoured with awards for recent projects.
“Our government knows how important the construction industry is to Manitoba communities,” said Naylor. “These awards celebrate the outstanding impact our construction sector has on our province, from trade and commerce, to road safety and employment opportunities for Manitobans.”
Each year, nominations are submitted for projects in seven different construction categories. Projects are evaluated on a number of different criteria including quality of work, adherence to contract specifications and design criteria, complexity of project and adherence to construction timetable and budget.
The 2023 winners in their respective categories are:
- grading: Strilkiwski Contracting Ltd. for grading on Provincial Trunk Highway (PTH) 39 and Provincial Road (PR) 616 to PR 627 in the northern region;
- paving: Maple Leaf Construction for bituminous reconstruction on PTH 3 from 0.3 kilometres (km) east of PTH 13 to PR 305;
- urban works: Maple Leaf Construction for thin lift overlay in various locations around Dauphin;
- special projects: Bayview Construction Ltd. for bituminous reconstruction (twinning and roundabout) on PTH 6 from PTH 101 to Grosse Isle;
- major structures: M.D. Steele Construction Ltd. for new bridge construction at Valley River on PR 366;
- minor structures: Armcom Construction Ltd. for structure modifications and rehabilitation at Falcon Lake and West Hawk Lake access; and
- water infrastructure projects: Tri-Core Projects Ltd. for flood protection for the Mary Jane Dam emergency spillway rehabilitation in Manitou.
At the MHCA breakfast, the Manitoba government also announced it would be releasing the 2023-24 winter advertising schedule for construction, engineering service provider and material supply tenders for projects across the province. The schedule allows the construction and engineering services industries time to prepare for the upcoming season of designing and building highways, structures and other projects. The advertising schedule includes many types of projects including surfacing, grading, structures, intersection improvements and culverts.
Highlights of 2023-24 planned construction include:
- surface rehabilitation on PTH 6, 0.6 km south of PR 239 to Fairford River;
- structure at Lawford River, servicing Oxford House, God’s Lake, God’s River, Red Sucker Lake and Garden Hill first nations;
- structure on PR 311 at Manning Canal, 1.9 km west of PR 206;
- structure on PTH 3 at Souris River, 0.7 km east of the north junction of PTH 83 (vicinity of Melita);
- structure on PR 305 at Red River, 0.5 km east of PTH 75 (Ste. Agathe);
- spillway rehabilitation for Rivers Dam; and
- new airport terminal building at God’s Lake Narrows Airport.
