Manitoba Government Recognizes Municipal Government Awareness Week
BRANDON—The Manitoba government has proclaimed the week of Nov. 27 to Dec. 1 as Municipal Government Awareness Week, Municipal and Northern Relations Minister Ian Bushie announced here today.
“Municipal governments provide critical services and programs that create communities that flourish economically, socially and culturally, and ensure the safe, efficient functioning of municipalities,” said Bushie. “Our government is honoured to work in concert with municipalities to promote opportunities for growth, economic development and investment attraction that foster strong, safe and healthy communities.”
The official proclamation was presented to Association of Manitoba Municipalities (AMM) officials by the minister.
Municipal Government Awareness Week is aligned with the annual fall AMM convention, which is taking place in Brandon from Nov. 28 to 30, the minister noted.
“In collaboration with our association, we commend the new provincial government for proclaiming Municipal Government Awareness Week for the third consecutive year. This proclamation underscores the invaluable partnership between municipalities and the Manitoba government, emphasizing the pivotal role that local councils play in shaping and enriching our communities,” said Kam Blight, president, Association of Manitoba Municipalities.
Municipal Government Awareness Week engages Manitobans in local issues, encourages citizens to learn more about how local governments work and highlights the central role of municipal officials in creating safe, sustainable communities.
