Manitoba Government Proclaims Correctional Worker Day

The Manitoba government is recognizing the essential work of correctional workers by proclaiming Dec. 20 as Correctional Worker Day, Justice Minister Matt Wiebe announced today.

“I am proud to proclaim today as Correctional Worker Day to recognize those who serve as correctional officers, youth counsellors and other staff who work to keep our communities safe,” said Wiebe. “They work in very difficult environments and their contributions to keeping our community safe deserve our thanks and appreciation. Our new government will rely on their commitment to helping those who are incarcerated turn their lives around to build a culture of safety throughout Manitoba.”

There are seven adult and youth correctional facilities in Manitoba, which employ over 2,000 full and part-time correctional staff.
