Statement from Premier Wab Kinew on Canada Day
Happy Canada Day!
Today, I encourage Manitobans to come together with your friends, family and community to celebrate Canada.
In light of our recent commemoration of the 80th anniversary of D-Day, I encourage Manitobans to take this moment to reflect on the sacrifice our veterans and active service members made to ensure the democracy, freedom and justice we enjoy today. Those who have responded to the call of duty come from all walks of life – Indigenous and non-Indigenous alike.
No matter who you are or where you come from, every one of us is a part of this country and province. We all share one future. I encourage all Manitobans to take pride in the ongoing project which we call Canada.
For me, my pride in who I am as a Canadian, as a Manitoban and as an Anishinaabe person, is not a denial of any of the challenging parts of our past. It is a recognition of the people who have sacrificed so much for us to have the opportunities we do today.
Celebrating Canada Day today is an embrace of the hope we have to continue moving forward as a country for a better future, together.
