Manitobans in southwest Winnipeg will now benefit from the addition of 18 affordable units and 125 market units in Bridgwater, Housing, Addictions and Homelessness Minister Bernadette Smith announced today.
“Affordable housing is critical to ensuring Manitoba families can thrive in our communities,” said Smith. “Our government is committed to working with our partners across municipal, federal and Indigenous governments and in the private sector to build and maintain social and affordable housing and help keep rents lower for all Manitobans.”
The $36.5-million complex at 250 Centre St. features 18 affordable units and 125 market units consisting of one-, two- and three-bedroom units. Construction commenced in October 2022 and is now complete. The units are now available for occupancy.
“At Paragon Living, we recognize that affordable housing is essential to a thriving community,” said Nigel Fergus, president, Paragon Living. “This initiative is a bold step forward in our mission to expand housing opportunities in Winnipeg, making Bridgwater a dynamic and inclusive neighbourhood for everyone. This project highlights Paragon Living’s unwavering commitment to creating inclusive communities by delivering top-quality, affordable housing in Winnipeg’s Bridgwater neighbourhood. Through this collaboration, we are not just constructing buildings; we are laying the foundation for brighter futures.”
Through the Canada-Manitoba Housing Agreement, the Manitoba government is providing $348,000 under the National Housing Strategy for this project, which will create 18 affordable housing units in Winnipeg’s Bridgwater neighbourhood. This investment aligns with the minister’s mandate to build, expand and protect social and affordable housing.
Paragon Living was founded in 2008 and has since become one of the most active multi-family developers in Winnipeg, noted the minister. Their infill and multi-family projects represent more than $250 million in value.
The units are now available for occupancy.
