Manitoba Government Investment Doubles Jobs for Manitobans at MoveMobility
– – –MoveMobility Inc. to Expand Facility at CentrePort: Moses
The Manitoba government is providing $1.3 million in grant funding to support MoveMobility Inc., a wheelchair-accessible vehicle and mobile medical van manufacturer, to expand their operations at CentrePort, Economic Development, Investment, Trade and Natural Resources Minister Jamie Moses announced today.
“Supporting local businesses that are expanding into exciting new ventures and employing more Manitobans is a priority for our government,” said Moses. “MoveMobility’s new facility will help grow the economy, provide good jobs for skilled professionals and showcase Manitoba as a prime destination for manufacturing companies on the world stage.”
MoveMobility Inc. manufactures and exports medical vans across Canada and to the United States. The company is undertaking an expansion with the construction of a new 60,000 sq.-ft. facility at CentrePort. The expansion will enable MoveMobility to manufacture type II ambulances in addition to their current business.
“We are deeply grateful to the Manitoba government for their unwavering support, which empowers MoveMobility to advance our mission of removing barriers to healthcare and transportation,” said Richard Jones, CEO, MoveMobility. “With backing from the provincial government, we are excited to address the ambulance shortage with a Manitoba-made solution, enhancing our ability to save lives and serve our community even more effectively. Together, we are making a meaningful difference.”
The addition will help MoveMobility continue its innovative work in the health-care industry, noted the minister. In response to the pandemic, MoveMobility Inc. pivoted operations and developed a new mobile health vehicle, which acts as a doctor’s office on wheels. The mobile health vehicle was deployed to First Nations communities and underserved populations for medical and mental health supports along with vaccination drives. The new type II ambulance evolved from this approach to health care.
The expansion is also expected to create 55 highly skilled jobs, which is in addition to the 55 Manitobans the company currently employs, the minister noted.
“We applaud the province for supporting MoveMobility’s growth and their plans to construct an innovative new health-care manufacturing facility,” said Carly Edmundson, president and CEO, CentrePort Canada Inc. “MoveMobility has been strategically located at CentrePort for many years and it's incredible to see this Manitoba company expanding their operations at the trimodal inland port.”
By capitalizing on CentrePort’s links to global trade markets, this expansion will significantly increase MoveMobility’s Manitoba footprint and enables the company to efficiently export its products to national and international markets, noted the minister.
