Refreshed Manitoba Cabinet Moving Forward for a Hopeful Future

New Mandate to Deliver a Good Life for Manitobans: Premier

One year into government, Manitoba’s Executive Council will welcome new ministers with refreshed portfolios and an entirely new department focused on bringing Manitoba into the future of technology and innovation, Premier Wab Kinew announced today. 

“Hope lives here in Manitoba. After years of cuts to health care and a rising cost of living, our government is working to give Manitobans a reason to hope for a better future,” said Kinew. “Today, we renew our commitment to deliver a good life for families, with refreshed and focused government departments and dedicated new ministers ready to serve you.” 

The refreshed cabinet will continue to move forward on its core mandate to fix health care, make life more affordable and bring Manitobans together to build our shared future, the premier said. Ministers will be able to focus on key initiatives and devote attention to the issues that matter most to Manitobans, he added. 

The new Department of Innovation and New Technology, led by Mike Moroz (MLA for River Heights), will help to grow Manitoba’s tech industry, support businesses and foster innovation. It will also look to modernize government services and improve customer experience so Manitobans can get the most of out of their government. 

The other new members of cabinet are Mintu Sandhu (MLA for The Maples) as the minister of public service delivery and Nellie Kennedy (MLA for Assiniboia) as the minister of sport, culture, heritage and tourism. 

Existing members of cabinet with refreshed responsibilities include:

  • Jamie Moses (MLA for St. Vital) – minister of business, mining, trade and job creation;
  • Ian Bushie (MLA for Keewatinook) – minister of natural resources and Indigenous futures;
  • Glen Simard (MLA for Brandon East) – minister of municipal and northern relations, minister responsible for francophone affairs and the Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries Corporation; and
  • Lisa Naylor (MLA for Wolseley) – minister of transportation and infrastructure. 

Including the premier, there are 18 cabinet ministers:

  • Wab Kinew (MLA for Fort Rouge) – premier, minister of intergovernmental affairs and international relations, minister responsible for Indigenous reconciliation.
  • Uzoma Asagwara (MLA for Union Station) – deputy premier, minister of health, seniors and long-term care;
  • Ron Kostyshyn (MLA for Dauphin) – minister of agriculture;
  • Matt Wiebe (MLA for Concordia) – minister of justice and attorney general, keeper of the great seal of the province of Manitoba, minister responsible for the Manitoba Public Insurance Corporation;
  • Nahanni Fontaine (MLA for St. Johns) – minister of families, minister responsible for accessibility, minister responsible for women and gender equity;
  • Bernadette Smith (MLA for Point Douglas) – minister of housing, addictions and homelessness, and minister responsible for mental health;
  • Nello Altomare (MLA for Transcona) – minister of education and early childhood learning;
  • Ian Bushie (MLA for Keewatinook) – minister of natural resources and Indigenous futures;
  • Malaya Marcelino (MLA for Notre Dame) – minister of labour and immigration, and minister responsible for the Workers Compensation Board;
  • Jamie Moses (MLA for St. Vital) – minister of business, mining, trade and job creation;
  • Lisa Naylor (MLA for Wolseley) – minister of transportation and infrastructure;
  • Adrien Sala (MLA for St. James) – minister of finance, minister responsible for the Public Utilities Board, minister responsible for Manitoba Hydro, minister responsible for the Manitoba public service;
  • Renée Cable (MLA for Southdale) – minister of advanced education and training;
  • Tracy Schmidt (MLA for Rossmere) – minister of environment and climate change, minister responsible for Efficiency Manitoba, acting minister of education and early childhood learning;
  • Glen Simard (MLA for Brandon East) – minister of municipal and northern relations, minister responsible for francophone affairs and the Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries Corporation
  • Mintu Sandhu (MLA for The Maples) – minister of public service delivery:
  • Nellie Kennedy (MLA for Assiniboia) – minister of sport, culture, heritage and tourism; and
  • Mike Moroz (MLA for River Heights) – minister of innovation and new technology. 

The cabinet ministers are supported in their work by six legislative assistants:

  • Diljeet Brar – legislative assistant to the minister of sport, culture, heritage and tourism;
  • Mike Moyes – legislative assistant to the minister of education and childhood learning, assistant to the minister of environment and climate change;
  • Jelynn Dela Cruz – legislative assistant to the minister of health, seniors and long-term care;
  • JD Devgan – legislative assistant to the minister of finance;
  • Eric Redhead – legislative assistant to the minister responsible for Indigenous reconciliation; and
  • Robert Loiselle – legislative assistant to the minister responsible for francophone affairs.
