Manitoba Government's Mineral Development Fund Supports Future Mining Opportunities
The Manitoba government is partnering with the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce and the Canada Infrastructure Bank (CIB) to invest $1 million in a feasibility study on northern infrastructure needs for critical mineral sector development, Business, Mining, Trade and Job Creation Minister Jamie Moses announced today.
“We know Manitoba is a minerals powerhouse and the opportunity to attract global companies and build up mining investment has never been greater,” said Moses. “This funding will be used to assess roads, hydro, shipping and other infrastructure assets that mining companies depend on to open for business. It’s part of Manitoba’s plan to market our critical mineral advantage.”
The CIB and the Manitoba government will work together on the feasibility study, which will assess infrastructure requirements including roads, rail, shipping, telecommunications and utilities.
“The CIB is pleased to collaborate with the Manitoba government on a joint feasibility study exploring development opportunities within the critical minerals sector,” said Ehren Cory, CEO, CIB. “We are eager to move forward with projects in the province that will significantly boost Canada’s mining potential and contribute to economic growth.”
“The Manitoba Chambers of Commerce is proud to partner on this important initiative to advance the province’s mineral sector,” said Chuck Davidson, president and CEO, Manitoba Chambers of Commerce. “Strategic investments in infrastructure are key to unlocking Manitoba’s potential in critical minerals, driving economic growth and creating opportunities for northern communities. This collaboration demonstrates our shared commitment to building a stronger, more sustainable future for Manitoba’s economy.”
Recommendations from the study will guide key investments that strengthen Manitoba’s critical minerals sector and benefit northern communities and the province’s economy for generations to come, the minister noted.
