The Manitoba government is investing more than $2 million in infrastructure projects across the Interlake region, supporting local municipalities in upgrading public safety as well as active and critical transportation infrastructure, Municipal and Northern Relations Minister Glen Simard announced today.
“Our government is committed to strengthening communities across Manitoba, and today’s investment demonstrates exactly that,” said Simard. “These projects will enhance public safety and improve essential local infrastructure that families and communities rely on every day. By working closely with municipalities across the Interlake region, we’re ensuring they have the tools they need to build a safer, more vibrant future for all Manitobans.”
The five Interlake region projects funded through the 2024-25 Manitoba Growth, Renewal and Opportunities (GRO) program include:
- Rural Municipality (RM) of Gimli, Gimli Recreation Centre campus plan and renewal of Centennial Road and Autumnwood Drive – $1 million;
- RM of Rockwood, phase 2 reconstruction of Propellant Plant Road (75N) and Road 10E – $784,875;
- Town of Stonewall, climate and accessibility upgrades of Quarry Park – $136,500;
- RM of Grahamdale, grounds expansion of Faulkner Waste Disposal – $125,000; and
- Town of Winnipeg Beach, fire department fleet replacement and rapid response – $40,000.
“On behalf of the RM of Gimli, I want to thank the Manitoba government for this significant investment in our community,” said Kevin Chudd, mayor, RM of Gimli. “The funding for the recreation centre campus plan and essential infrastructure renewal will help us modernize critical assets, enhance safety, and support the recreational and transportation needs of our growing community. These improvements will benefit residents, businesses and visitors alike, and we’re grateful for the province’s continued partnership in building a strong and vibrant future for Gimli.”
Manitoba GRO is an application-based program available to all municipalities outside Winnipeg and is designed to help advance critical infrastructure that will support growing and sustainable communities.
Recipients for the Manitoba GRO 2025-26 projects will be announced by the end of the year, the minister noted.
