Manitoba Government Advances $88-Million Project for Improvements to Provincial Road 283 Near The Pas

The Manitoba government is advancing design work for an $88-million construction project on two segments of Provincial Road (PR) 283 between The Pas and the Saskatchewan border to support safer, more reliable travel in northern Manitoba, Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Lisa Naylor announced today.

“Provincial Road 283 is an essential route for northern communities, and these improvements will help make travel safer and more reliable,” said Naylor. “We are pleased to be moving this project forward and will continue to engage the local community as we progress through the stages.”

The two segments, totalling nearly 40 kilometres between the Saskatchewan border and Provincial Trunk Highway (PTH) 10, are currently in the design stage. The segments include approximately 22 kilometres from the border to PR 282 and 18 kilometres from PR 282 to PTH 10.

Planned work includes bituminous reconstruction, embankment and safety improvements, as well as culvert replacements and access management. Construction on the first segment from PR 282 to PTH 10 is anticipated to begin in 2027, the minister noted.

The Manitoba government has prioritized advancing the segment of PR 283 from the Saskatchewan border to PR 282, while options continue to be evaluated near the Knapp Dam, the minister noted.

Further updates will be provided as design work progresses, the minister added.
