Manitoba Government Awards Construction Management Contract for New CancerCare Manitoba Facility

The Manitoba government has awarded the construction management contract for CancerCare Manitoba’s second facility to PCL Constructors Canada Inc., Health, Seniors and Long-Term Care Minister Uzoma Asagwara announced today.
“We committed to building a new CancerCare Manitoba facility and today we are taking another major step toward delivering on that commitment,” said Asagwara. “Every Manitoban facing cancer deserves the best care possible. This new, state-of-the-art facility will give patients and families more space, more support and access to the latest advances in cancer treatment and research.”
Following a competitive procurement process, PCL Constructors was selected to provide construction management services for the project. With extensive experience delivering similar health-care infrastructure projects across Canada and Australia, such as the Arthur J.E. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre in Calgary, and the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in Melbourne, Australia, PCL will support the next phase of planning, design development and construction readiness as the project advances.

The contract award marks the beginning of an intensive pre-construction phase that will focus on design development, procurement planning, risk management and continued stakeholder engagement. Throughout 2026, project teams are continuing to work closely with clinicians, staff, patients and families, Indigenous partners, technical advisers and community stakeholders to ensure the facility is designed to meet Manitoba’s current and future cancer care needs.
The new CancerCare Manitoba facility will support Manitoba’s long-term cancer care strategy by:
- expanding space and capacity for cancer treatment and testing;
- supporting the introduction of new and innovative treatments;
- creating flexible spaces that can adapt to evolving clinical and research needs;
- promoting more sustainable, modern models of care;
- providing better support for patients and families throughout their cancer journey; and
- strengthening research, innovation and partnerships with universities and industry.
The new facility represents a transformative investment in Manitoba’s health-care system, ensuring patients and families have access to leading-edge cancer care, research, and support services closer to home, the minister noted, adding that the project will be delivered under a Manitoba Jobs Agreement, helping create good jobs and opportunities for Manitoba workers.
