Manitoba Government Provides Manigotagan $100,000 Grant to Renovate Community Hall

The Manitoba government is investing $100,000 through the From the Ground Up – Safe Healthy Communities for ALL program in renovations to the Manigotagan Community Centre, Municipal and Northern Relations Minister Glen Simard announced today.
“The Manigotagan Community Centre is truly the heart of this community. A place where people come together to learn, celebrate and support one another,” said Simard. “Our government is proud to invest in upgrades that will keep this space safe, accessible and welcoming for everyone. The new roof and interior improvements will ensure the hall continues to serve the community for many years to come. These renovations reflect our commitment to building safe, healthy communities across Manitoba.”
The Manigotagan Community Centre, known locally as the Alex Wood Recreational Centre, is the hub of the community and an important piece of infrastructure for the surrounding region, the minister noted. The community hall is used for first-aid courses and swimming lessons, and hosts numerous social events such as weddings, birthdays and social gatherings for special events and holiday celebrations. It is also a gathering place for elders, children and youth to socialize in a safe environment.
“The Alex Wood Recreational Centre is an important place in our community,” said Helen Thomas, mayor, Manigotagan Community Council. “It's the place where we, the community, come together to celebrate weddings, birthdays, holidays and where we hold our celebrations of life and funerals. We are so excited to see the renovations that will upgrade our hall to better serve our community events. Thank you to the Manitoba government for these renovations. It's greatly appreciated.”
The project includes exterior upgrades with a new roof as well as interior upgrades to make the kitchen and washrooms wheelchair accessible. The roof is expected to be completed by fall 2026, and the interior work will begin once the exterior work is complete.
The From the Ground Up – Safe Healthy Communities for ALL program is a Manitoba government grant program. It provides up to $100,000 to help non-profits, municipalities and northern affairs councils fund community revitalization, youth programs and capital space improvements.
