Manitoba Government Invests $100,000 in Winnipeg Pickleball Courts
The Manitoba government is investing $100,000 through the From the Ground Up – Safe Healthy Communities for ALL Program in two new community pickleball courts located in Winnipeg’s Amber Trails neighbourhood, an active living project that will encourage physical activity and a healthy community, Municipal and Northern Relations Minister Glen Simard announced today.
“These new pickleball courts will give families a safe, accessible place to stay active and connect with their neighbours,” said Simard. “By investing in community‑driven recreation projects, we’re supporting play, programming and events that bring people together. This project strengthens a growing, diverse neighbourhood and ensures residents have quality outdoor spaces to enjoy close to home.”
The project will see Platinum Jets, a Winnipeg-based community and philanthropic group, construct two new pickleball courts, including nets and anchors, a granular base, top coat of asphalt, and perimeter fencing.
The Amber Trails neighbourhood is a diverse and growing community where families rely on school grounds as safe, accessible spaces for recreation outside of school hours, the minister noted.
“Pickleball has become one of the most popular activities for people of all ages, and this investment ensures the broader Winnipeg community can enjoy free, accessible outdoor courts in their own neighbourhood,” said Public Service Delivery Minister Mintu Sandhu, who attended the local event on behalf of Simard. “These new courts will encourage active living, social connection and a healthier community.”
From local students to seniors groups, residents of all ages will have the opportunity to enjoy playing pickleball close to home.
“As a charitable organization, we are committed to projects that benefit residents in Winnipeg’s North End,” said Mike Cavell, executive director, Platinum Jets. “This project will benefit residents of all ages, emphasizing social connection and physical activity in the area. We are pleased to have assisted Seven Oaks School Division, which identified these pickleball courts as a priority, and we congratulate everyone in the local community who worked so hard to make this project a reality.”
The From the Ground Up – Safe Healthy Communities for ALL Program provides up to $100,000 to help non‑profits, municipalities and northern affairs councils fund community revitalization, youth programs and capital improvements that strengthen local infrastructure and support vibrant community life.
