Manitoba Government Invests $630,000 in Youth Employment and Leadership Programs
The Manitoba government is strengthening youth employment, leadership and wellness across the province with new investments through the From the Ground Up – Safe Healthy Communities for All program, helping young Manitobans build job skills, access mentorship and participate in culturally grounded programming that prepares them for long-term success, Municipal and Northern Relations Minister Glen Simard announced today.
“Our government is proud to invest in programs that help young Manitobans build confidence, develop job skills and discover their full potential,” said Simard. “By supporting community organizations across the province, we are reducing barriers and opening doors to meaningful employment, mentorship, cultural learning and wellness supports. These investments ensure youth have the tools they need to succeed and they strengthen Manitoba’s future by empowering the next generation of leaders.”
Community organizations including Boys and Girls Clubs of Winnipeg and Development Assistance International will receive funding to expand youth employment programs, leadership development, cultural learning and mental health supports. These investments reflect the Manitoba government’s commitment to reducing barriers, supporting vulnerable youth and creating meaningful pathways into the workforce, the minister noted.
“All children and youth in Manitoba deserve the opportunity to live up to their potential while they discover and achieve their dreams and grow up to be healthy, successful, and active participants in society,” said Noelle DePape, president and CEO, Boys and Girls Clubs of Winnipeg. “This funding will help BGC Winnipeg to create first jobs for youth, while we continue to provide a safe, supportive place where young people can experience new opportunities, overcome barriers, build positive relationships and develop confidence and skills for life.”
“Newcomer youth face many challenges as they adapt to a new community including barriers to education, employment, social connections and mental well-being. This funding will help us provide academic support, mentorship, skills development and mental-health programming that build confidence, strengthen connections, and help newcomer youth feel welcomed and supported,” said Guy Kasereka Nyelele, project co-ordinator, Development Assistance International. “We are grateful for this investment and look forward to serving the community and assisting newcomer youth in Manitoba for many years to come.”
These investments will help youth across Manitoba gain confidence, build skills and access culturally relevant supports that prepare them for future employment, the minister said, adding that through partnership with community organizations the Manitoba government is ensuring young people have tools they need to succeed and contribute to the province’s social and economic growth.
The From the Ground Up – Safe Healthy Communities for All Program provides up to $100,000 to help non‑profits, municipalities and northern affairs councils fund community revitalization, youth programs and capital improvements that strengthen local infrastructure and support vibrant community life.
